The Middle School Language Arts and Reading Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing classroom instruction to develop each student's skills in listening, reading, writing, and speaking, which are fundamental to effective communication; instilling a love of reading and of literature; motivating students to read widely; developing standards for critical and spoken communications encountered in mass media; following and meeting the standards for the subject; implementing effective classroom management; collaborating with colleagues and administration to develop classroom instruction and to address classroom issues.

This position requires additional service through after-school activity support and bus driving.

Service Activities

Language arts and reading instruction, homeroom teacher, monitoring, and assisting with the other needs of Our Lady of Lourdes Elementary School. After-school program support. Bus driving support.

Community Need Addressed

This position will provide excellent Language Arts and Reading instruction to approximately 60 students in the Porcupine district on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota in an area with a shortage of qualified teachers.

This position will also provide transportation for K-8 through bus driving, as well as support of after-school programming.

Position Outcomes

Students will achieve the desired academic outcomes to be successful in later grades and in high school.
