Each month AmeriCorps outreach members will plan, direct and provide education outreach activities at local birthing hospitals, pediatric hospitals, doctor’s offices, clinics, health and community fairs, to educate and recruit families to enroll in the program. Each outreach member will enroll on average 25 new children per month to increase the number of children in underserved areas, 0-5 year, who receive a monthly age appropriate book delivered directly to their home. Members will input enrollment information in the Books from Birth database, as well as, contact families to update information to assure delivery of books.

Position Outcomes

Increasing young children’s access to books is precisely the mission of the Books from Birth program, which delivers an age-appropriate book each month for the first five years of a child’s life. By increasing access to books, the program builds a culture of early reading, promotes stronger family connections, and helps prepare children for kindergarten.
