Members begin with several weeks of high-quality training, provided by the Educational Service Center. They are then assigned to one school for the year where they provide daily reading support to students in small groups or in 1 on 1 settings. Members also participate in National Days of Service to further strengthen their community.
Service Activities
Each day, Members report to their service site to provide reading support to students. Each Member is assigned approximately 20 students, based on fall reading data. They provide support in small groups (5 students or fewer) or in 1:1 settings. Additional activities include lesson planning, professional development, team meetings, and service projects.
Community Need Addressed
Many students do not receive the support they need. Our Members provide individualized reading support to students who are below-proficient readers across Ohio.
Position Outcomes
Members will help increase students' reading ability, building life-long readers. Students will become more confident in reading, which impacts all other academic areas.
Students will meet their year-end reading goals and will meet grade-level proficiency by the end of 3rd grade.
