  • About Us
Through our partnership with AmeriCorps, each year National Health Corps recruits, trains and places emerging leaders in resource-limited organizations throughout Chicago, North Florida, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh to expand, improve and combine their efforts to improve health outcomes in underserved communities. Members collaborate with staff in schools and local government, nonprofit, and faith-based agencies to recruit, train and manage volunteers, development and implement programs in communities that aren’t being reached, and build partnerships between organizations who are doing similar work through staff training and outreach. National Health Corps Programs

Chicago Health Corps

The program was established in 1994 with the mission to foster healthy communities by connecting those who need it most with health and wellness education, benefits and services, while developing tomorrow's compassionate health leaders. CHC is administered by the Public Health Institute of Metropolitan Chicago (PHIMC), a not-for-profit organization that works in collaboration with local public health agencies and non-governmental organizations dedicated to building effective public health capacity to enhance the health of communities in the greater Chicago Metropolitan area.

North Florida Health Corps

The North Florida Health Corps (NFHC) is a program of the National Health Corps. The National Health Corps is a National Direct AmeriCorps Service program that was founded in 1994. The NFHC was launched in 2004 and is currently administered by the Northeast Florida Healthy Start Coalition through partnerships with local non-profit and government organizations called host sites. Host Sites apply to partner with the NFHC and host a NFHC member to deliver direct services to clients to achieve the mission of the NFHC while expanding the host site’s capacity.

Philadelphia Health Corps

The program was established in 1994 with the mission to foster healthy communities by connecting those who need it most with health and wellness education, benefits and services, while developing tomorrow's compassionate health leaders. The PHC is administered by the Health Federation of Philadelphia, an organization that provides support, guidance, and technical assistance to health care and social service providers, to ensure that our most under served and vulnerable populations have access to quality health care.

Pittsburgh Health Corps

The Pittsburgh Health Corps is a program of the National Health Corps AmeriCorps program. Since 1994, the Pittsburgh Health Corps (PHC) has been managed through the Allegheny County Health Department, which fosters collaboration between members and agencies throughout the Pittsburgh area. The PHC is committed to decreasing disparities in local healthcare delivery systems and promoting health. PHC collaborates with a broad range of sites to ensure members are exposed to diverse opportunities in public health. Sites typically include homeless clinics, schools, health centers, and inter-generational community programs. Site supervisors serve as mentors to their members and model professionalism and commitment to service and the community.
