Environmental Stewards

Description

Environmental Stewards serve 1700 or 900 hour AmeriCorps terms, beginning in January and June. Their term of service begins with one to two weeks of training with the Maine Conservation Corps before being paired with a Host Site. Environmental Stewards are tasked with expanding the capacity of local organization by accomplishing conservation initiatives. The activities of stewards vary by the needs of host sites; past projects have included: water quality monitoring, volunteer management, habitat restoration, environmental education, small scale recreational trail projects, and much more.

$1400 - $1400 monthly

Weekly living allowance of $335.42 (before taxes) for 24 weeks Certifications in the National Incident Management System, some members will also receive a MCC Chainsaw Safety Certification Conferences such as the Maine AmeriCorps Member Conference Networking opportunities Maine State Park Pass AmeriCorps Education Award of $3,047.50 Some members may also be eligible for student loan forbearance and childcare reimbursement A small number of Host Sites also offer housing as part of their position

High School Graduate

Desired Certifications or Qualifications

Site Specific Qualifications:
• Trail building experience preferred
• Ability to critically thing and solve problems
• General ability to serve independently in the field and maintain equipment, as well as an affinity for leading activities and discussions with volunteers
