The New Americans Opportunity Corps is an AmeriCorps State program of Lutheran Family Services, Inc. Our mission is to improve the economic opportunities New Americans through education and employment programs that empower individuals towards self-sufficiency.

The purpose of the Job Training Coach is to support the delivery of employment training services that empowers refugees and New Americans to obtain employment and to achieve economic self-sufficiency according to time limits and guidelines established by the state refugee program.

Community Need Addressed

The Refugee Job Training Coach targets the economic security and self-sufficiency of New Americans in Omaha, Nebraska. Refugees often lack work experience and job skills, denying them access to well-paying jobs. Targeted job training and work experience will enable refugees to find jobs that lift them out of poverty, and provide economic security for themselves and their families.

Position Outcomes

Refugees will obtain basic computer literacy, gaining knowledge of important computer skills and functions. A select group of refugees will gain work experience and job training that will enable them to attain employment in local Omaha businesses.
