The purpose of the Community Coordinator is to build the capacity of La Puente to lower the rate of homelessness in the San Luis Valley by increasing education, soliciting community involvement, and utilizing volunteers to address the needs of those living in poverty. The Community Coordinator accomplishes this through implementing community events, presentations, and publications. The Community Coordinator will be responsible for directly engaging the communities of the San Luis Valley with La Puente’s mission and will serve as a community liaison for client representation.

Service Activities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Coordinate community events to raise community awareness and recruit volunteers
• Coordinate fundraisers for specific projects/services (food for the food bank, furniture for Adelante Houses, etc.)
• Document events through photography and/or videography
• Make community presentations about the mission and service of La Puente and how to become involved
• Produce story and photo journals, and other publications to share the mission of La Puente and AmeriCorps
• Send out public service announcements about La Puente volunteer and partnership opportunities
• Find new and creative ways to coordinate events and volunteer opportunities
• Keep contact with volunteers
• Promote events on social media sites
• Give tours of all the La Puente programs
• Write and distribute thank you cards for volunteers
• Find new and interesting ways to share La Puente’s mission and story
• Directly communicates and meets with clients to interview and document their stories
• Creates a clear understanding of the impact of La Puente’s work with both community and staff members
• Assists other AmeriCorps members and La Puente team members with organizational storytelling processes
• Serves closely with the Community Education Director to maintain and update website language
• Engages community and organizational involvement in the La Puente branding process
• Actively visits La Puente service sites to document AmeriCorps service and client stories through photography and other mediums
• Learns day-to-day operations of other La Puente programs by visiting and spending time with other service sites to adequately convey organizational mission and value
