COVID-19 Recovery AmeriCorps members serving 450 hours over 24 weeks will be partnered with the following organizations across Iowa:
Altoona: Caring Hands Outreach- Food Security
Serve with the Caring Hands Outreach food pantry to grow a consistent base of in-kind donations to keep the food pantry stocked with essentials.
Coralville: Coralville Community Food Pantry - Food Security
Unload and sort food donations for the food pantry. Train and supervise volunteers in the pantry. Assist clients in accessing the client choice pantry
Decorah: Seed Savers Exchange- Food Security SPRING POSITION
Serve at the Heritage Farms to maintain the orchards, gardens and trails. Harvest from the gardens and distribute produce to local food pantries. Give tours at Seed Savers to educate guests on growing food and saving seeds
AmeriCorps members will engage in service activities that include a wide variety of tasks that meet the needs of organizations where members serve.
Food Security: AmeriCorps members will address food security by preparing, sorting, packing and/or distributing food for food insecure individuals. Members may also serve in community or organization gardens to grow fresh produce for distribution to food pantries.
Economic Relief Services and Programs: AmeriCorps members will address the needs of Iowans by providing economic relief services and programs that promote the health, safety and independence of individuals and families. Under this activity services may also be provided to individuals experiencing homelessness.
