By serving as an Americorps, you'll gain new skills and experiences plus you'll get the opportunity to channel your ideas and passion into strengthening individuals and whole communities. High Rocks AmeriCorps members improve academic achievement by providing area youth with programs that support them both to succeed in school, and also discover skills and interests that keep them engaged in learning within and beyond the classroom. AmeriCorps members provide direct service in all the key components of the High Rocks programming. Members serving at Steele Studio, our connected student cafe in downtown Richwood, will serve as a mentors to youth participants, create and facilitate structured activities focused on art, music, entrepreneurship and empowerment, and support the day-to-day activities of Steele Studio.

Service Activities

• Strive to create an safe, learning-rich space for youth
• Serve as a mentor
• Create and facilitate structured activities focused on art, music, entrepreneurship and empowerment
• Recruit and coordinate community and parent volunteers
• Serve as a support member for other High Rocks programming events and projects

Community Need Addressed

Steele Studio is one of High Rock's student cafe's, it is a centrally-located, safe, inclusive and fun student cafe for middle and high school age students. Steele Studio's mission is to provide young people in Nicholas County with the confidence to lead active lives and work toward the long-term betterment of our community.

Position Outcomes
