The VISTA will increase the capacity of the Math Matters tutoring program by conducting research, program evaluation, and outreach to stakeholders. They will collaborate with Nashman Center staff, DCPS school partners, and community-based organizations to implement math tutoring and programming in Title I middle schools in Washington, DC. Responsibilities will include: Contributing to tutor recruitment, training development, evaluation, identifying areas of improvement, and grant writing.

Service Activities

Activities include: 1. support tutor recruitment, training, curriculum and other logistics; 2. gather and analyze data to inform reports and make recommendations for program improvements; 3. build sustainability for VISTA-initiated projects

Position Outcomes

Math Matters provides high-impact math tutoring to middle school students to address the decline in math skills caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The VISTA member will support the program through program evaluation, grant research, and training support. These areas will allow us to improve the program to better support DCPS students and to grow the program to serve more schools.
