Placement Specialist (Panama City)

The placement specialist will provide insight on quality of employment for our participants by conducting surveys and continuing contact with individuals that have received our services. Placement specialist will devote service to the retention efforts within the Mission Services team. Help participants understand their next steps and provide support to get them on their goal of self-sufficiency.

Service Activities

1. Act as front-line support via electronic mediums and face-to-face interactions with participants engaging in services.
2. Conduct Employer outreach and job development.
3. Follow up with participants to determine employment status and satisfaction.
4. Engage in mentoring activities so that participants retain their jobs and/or advance in their jobs.
5. Follow up with participants after they have completed their courses and/or placement services. *
6. In collaboration with the participant, document next steps and map a plan for career growth. *
7. Document participant progress and next steps in our data management system. *



8. Troubleshoot any initial issues participants may have with courses or classes, and escalate the issue to staff if needed.
9. Interact with participants via electronic mediums or in person to encourage completion of modules and to monitor participants’ progress toward completion. *
10. Gather participants exit survey data and provide reports to staff and management to improve participant’s experience with our LMS and Career Campus.
11. Work with computer software such as Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud, and learn additional software programs to better assist participants.
12. Work in teams, and communicate effectively electronically and in person. *
13. Meet deadlines while handling multiple duties and projects. *
14. Strive to achieve outcome goals as established by member contract.
15. Participate in AmeriCorps recruitment efforts to increase direct support of participants.
16. Participate in AmeriCorps retention and recognition efforts.

Community Need Addressed

The Goodwill GoodWorks AmeriCorps Program provides services to participants that increase their occupational skills and job opportunities. This Job Placement Specialist position is part of a continuum of services offered in the AmeriCorps Goodwill GoodWorks! Program to remove barriers from economically disadvantaged individuals in their progression towards self-sufficiency. We use the Opportunity Accelerator Framework which describes three parts to successful career services: 1) Assess; 2) Equip, and 3) Launch. The Placement Specialist focuses on the “Launch” activities.

Position Outcomes

The AmeriCorps Placement Specialist will provide direct service to participants by conducting employer outreach throughout the community to strengthen relationships and network for job ready individuals. Members will engage with people who have received our services by following up on employment status, quality of employment, and offer courses and other opportunities to retain and continue to serve participants. Members will host two-hour networking groups on a weekly basis with activities to engage participants at our centers and connect them with likeminded individuals seeking the same aspirations. Placement Specialists will work in conjunction with Trainers and Resource Connectors to serve participants receiving occupational skills training and pre-employment job readiness training.
