    Dean Kamen is an inventor, entrepreneur, and tireless advocate for science and technology. His passion and determination to help young people discover the excitement and rewards of science and technology are the cornerstones of FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology).

    FIRST was founded in 1989 to inspire young people's interest and participation in science and technology. Based in Manchester, NH, the 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit public charity designs accessible, innovative programs that motivate young people to pursue education and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math, while building self-confidence, knowledge, and life skills.
  • Our Impact
    FIRST VISTA Members work to: a) Support and assist in the recruitment of teams, mentors, coaches and volunteers with an emphasis on securing and sustaining support to the underserved,b) Target specific underserved schools and communities as locations to establish FIRST teams or sustain and grow existing teams, c) support existing teams and mentors to impact student engagement and interest in STEM, d) Raise awareness of grant and funding opportunities for underserved students or teams and to bring awareness to high school students on FIRST teams regarding scholarship opportunities for post-secondary schooling opportunities, e) Host/Support outreach events, expos and demonstrations to increase awareness of FIRST programs among the underserved/underrepresented, f) Assist in supporting and organizing regional competitions and events for all FIRST programs, and coordinate training and workshops for teams and g) Track and report out on specific performance milestones and measurements
