Position

On Sacred Ground: Wyoming Service Corps

Episcopal Service Corps
No listings recruiting at this time

Our goal for participants is that ten months spent in community in wild, wonderful Wyoming will yield rich personal results. Corps members will share a contemplative environment in which to discern their greater place in the world. They will also enjoy opportunities to explore the extraordinary natural and social world around them.

It is in looking after others that we find our best selves. Where do we fit in this world? What is a task that we can undertake that will help us bring our world closer to the kingdom of God on earth?

Service Activities

The volunteer site placements are oriented to social and environmental justice as well as social welfare. Participants will have the opportunity to visit other sites in addition to their own. While this program seeks to assist the local community through placements in socially responsible programs, it will focus on providing opportunities for the growth of each participant vocationally, personally, and spiritually

Community Need Addressed

Our positions assist the partner agencies that we work with in providing a broader range of services they would not otherwise be able to provide without our corps members. Our corps members help support agencies that address community needs including homelessness, education, and food security.

Position Outcomes

Our corps members finish a year of service with a broader understanding of social issues and a stronger sense of self. Agencies that corps members are placed at will increase their capacity to address needs such as community and non-profit development, homelessness, and refugee services.

Benefits

Health coverage, Housing, Living allowance, Stipend

On Sacred Ground features four field trips that address two social justice topics that are central to Wyoming’s narrative: our settler-colonist heritage and cultural connection to ecology. These trips will mimic an indigenous tradition of centering our studies by traveling North, South, East and West for these learning experiences. Two Indian Reservations flank Cody to the North and South. We will investigate the Crow, Arapaho, and Shoshone narratives there, as well as the Little Big Horn, Chief Plenty Coups and Medicine Wheel sites. To the East and West of Cody are two significant environmental projects, Nature Conservancy on Heart Mountain and Greybull River’s Sustainable Landscape Ecology Project.
