Attendance Works AmeriCorps Member

The Attendance WORKS AmeriCorps Member will serve alongside a designated building coach in the school in an effort to promote attendance and increase attendance rates of students in Davenport by supporting social skill development and behavioral guidance.

Service Activities

Each member will build meaningful, consistent, positive relationships with students that facilitate their engagement in school to reduce chronic absenteeism. By the end of each academic quarter of the 2021-2022 school year, the goal is to have a minimum of two students out of ten on his/her caseload who will no longer be chronically absent. This will be accomplished through:
• Building relationships with students through check-ins, checkouts, breakfast, lunch, recess, attendance groups, etc.
• Monitoring caseload attendance using Davenport Community Schools’ Student Information System software
• Maintaining records of all student contact/activities
• Maintaining confidentiality of students and families with all persons other than authorized persons or agencies
• Collecting and reporting data at the beginning and end of each academic quarter to determine outcomes of AmeriCorps initiatives
• Participating in building-wide attendance efforts and offering support and experiences to further the overall attendance goals of each building
• Volunteers recruited and/or supported by AmeriCorps members will not participate in prohibited activities as outlined in the approved grant.
• Engage in other allowable activities that are not specifically outlined in the position description, but that support the AmeriCorps program design and which help the Program meet its goals. Under no circumstance will members be asked to perform prohibited activities outlines in the Member Service Agreement

Community Need Addressed

This position will support the City of Davenport AmeriCorps Program's overall goal to increase the high school graduation rate.

Position Outcomes

Elementary-aged students will be matched with positive mentors in the community, therefore decreasing the chance that they will drop out of school in later years. We will also have AmeriCorps members at Big Brother Big Sisters who will make matches with middle and high school students to support the goal of increasing the high school graduation rate.
