Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) Food Pantry Associates serve in teams with employees, participants, and volunteers from the local community to serve the walk-in food needs of families and organize monthly government commodities distributions to the elderly.

Service Activities

--Maintains food for the Pantry through several resources – God’s Food Pantry, Operation Sharing, donations, and purchasing through local
grocery stores.
--Maintains daily stock on shelves to ensure adequate food supply for families to choose from.
-- Prepares backpacks of food to be distributed to schools on a weekly basis.
--Maintains accurate records of food basket distribution in compliance with God’s Food Pantry, Federal commodities, and Christian
Appalachian Project.
--Assists in planning and implantation of the annual Hunger Walk.
--Provides statistical information in compliance with God’s Food Pantry and Christian Appalachian Project.
--Serves in other CAP and AmeriCorps programs when doing so does not interfere with the above duties.
--Participates in additional training and enrichment opportunities as assigned.

Corps members respond to food insecurity in rural, low-income counties.

Corps members will increase food security of participants.

In addition to the benefits described above, members also receive access to free mental health counseling. All food and housing is provided for members who choose to live in a CAP volunteer community house. Members who choose to live on their own receive an increased living allowance in lieu of room and board.
