Campus Compact’s mission is to advance the public purposes of colleges and universities, which means preparing institutions to address complex social issues through community engagement and educating students for civic and social responsibility. We envision higher education as responsive and transformative agents of change, partnering to create just and equitable communities locally, nationally, and globally. We challenge all of higher education to make civic and community engagement a central institutional priority. Read More

  • About Us
Campus Compact is a national nonprofit organization. We are the largest and oldest higher education association dedicated to higher education civic and community engagement. Our members make up a force of thousands of presidents, faculty, researchers, students, and civic and community engagement experts at colleges and universities.

Campus Compact takes a comprehensive approach to supporting member institutions—helping them build the knowledge, skills, and capacity needed to enable a just, equitable, and sustainable future.

Through a combination of place-based work, signature initiatives, national partnerships, and affinity networks, Campus Compact members are uniquely resourced and supported in addressing the most pressing challenges facing their institutions and communities. We focus on three primary impact areas:
    1. Civic learning and democratic engagement
    2. Publicly engaged scholarship, practice, and teaching
    3. Community engaged partnerships, institutional action and anchor activities
  • Our Impact
The Campus Climate Action Corps (CCAC) Project is a Campus Compact initiative that aims to build the capacity of campuses and their community partners to create change that leads to increased energy efficiency and improvements for at-risk ecosystems by implementing local solutions for underserved households and communities.

CCAC will begin with an initial launch in the Midwest, Northeast, and Southeast. In these regions, teams of CCAC AmeriCorps Members will host community environmental education events, conduct home energy assessments, including home energy assistance referrals, and implement low-tech home energy interventions to help advance public knowledge and increase motivation to conserve energy and reduce carbon emissions. CCAC Members will also implement projects in underserved communities that enhance ecosystem health and leverage local volunteers to support CCAC environmental stewardship activities.

CCAC is focused on supporting campus/community partnerships that:

    1. Raise awareness and address urgent climate issues in underserved communities
    2. Lower energy use and energy costs for low-income households
    3. Improve at-risk ecosystems in underserved areas
