  • Education & Youth

As advocates for children, we provide leadership, education and support for students, school districts and the community through programs, services and fiscal accountability.

  • About Us
Kern County Superintendent of Schools (KCSOS) office provides supports and serves the county’s 47 school districts through various programs, fiscal accountability, approval of district Local Control Accountability Plans (LCAPs), formulation of new curricula, assistance with staff development and training programs, and collaboration with community partners for the benefit of local young people. KCSOS also provides direct instruction to students who have been expelled from their home district, students who are incarcerated or are on probation, students with special needs and early learners through a network of preschools.
  • Our Impact
The Kern County Superintendent of Schools’ Department of School-Community Partnerships offers support services, including prevention programs (i.e., gang prevention, drug prevention, truancy prevention), instructional support services (i.e., teacher support and program improvement), and health services. Building Healthy Communities AmeriCorps is a program in the department and directly mentors over 800 students in 26 school sites. Approximately 80% of the students will remain in the program for the duration of the school year. KCSOS also provides direct services at 125 special education classrooms throughout Kern County, oversees the Court and Community Schools (Alternative Education Programs located in 16 Kern County locations), and provides services to infants, toddlers and youth preparing for kindergarten at 44 child development sites.
