The Youth Development Professional is embedded into each Boys & Girls Club located in Taylor County to assist in the BGC STEM program. Members are trained in youth development, positive discipline, and program instruction. Members prepare youth for success by supporting an environment that facilitates the achievement of educational outcomes in Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics. Members will promote and stimulate program participation, especially for teens. Members must provide guidance and role modeling to children. Members must monitor and evaluate programs areas and activities to ensure child safety, quality programs and good appearance of the unit at all times. This is an AmeriCorps service member position with the AmeriCorps program, The Boys & Girls Club of North Central Florida.

Service Activities

Members will promote and stimulate program participation, especially for teens. Members must provide guidance and role modeling to children. Members must monitor and evaluate programs areas and activities to ensure child safety, quality programs and good appearance of the unit at all times.

Community Need Addressed

Based on our needs assessment results Taylor County's major concern is for educational wellbeing of our youth. Truancy, teen pregnancy, drug abuse, and juvenile delinquency are all issues of major community concern. Many families lack resources, time and education to assist with their child's education.

Position Outcomes

Outcomes for our program include: increased positive behavioral changes toward school and academics, improved academic performance, an increased interest in learning, and expanded opportunities to learn.
