The AmeriCorps Home Visitor shall serve as the family’s primary contact with the Birth & Beyond (B&B) Program. The Home Visitor is responsible for developing a relationship with the family and working in their home and community to build upon strengths and to enhance self-sufficiency utilizing the Nurturing Parenting Program Curriculum.

Service Activities

1. Provide one-on-one parenting education through home visitation.
2. Administer assessments to parents including the AAPI which highlights areas needing support and progress.
3. Co-develop a Family Nurturing Plan with parents.
4. Facilitate Nurturing Parenting Program (NPP) lessons.
5. Facilitate activities where parent/child interact and communicate with parent/child in a nurturing way to model appropriate/positive parent-child interactions.
6. Educate on child and adolescent development; including age appropriate social-emotional & cognitive development.
7. Provide resources/referrals
8. Perform case management and complete associated documentation.

Community Need Addressed

Documented high rates of child abuse and neglect are attributable to a deficit in parenting knowledge and skills combined with high stress levels that impair a parents' ability to nurture their child and keep them safe. Research indicates that abuse prevents a child's healthy cognitive, emotional, and physical development and leads to a generational cycle of violence.

Position Outcomes

740 unduplicated parents receive at least 8 hour of parent education through home visitation will have no CPS referrals.
