The AmeriCorps member would be coordinating the use and interior design of our brand new greenhouse. The greenhouse has been built to withstand heavy snow loads and will be used in Cascade's Career and Technical Program. It is accessible to three schools: Cascade High School, Icicle River Middle School, and Alpine Lakes Elementary School. The greenhouse is almost complete and should be fully complete by February 2022.

Service Activities

The AmeriCorps member will coordinate setting up and maintaining the greenhouse, lesson materials, and equipment. The AmeriCorps member will be in charge of scheduling the greenhouse between the schools in proximity. They will also research best practices so that the use of the greenhouse is sustainable beyond the member’s service time. They also would be working with local businesses and non-profits to enhance student learning experiences and instruction.

Community Need Addressed

This position will add greenhouse and plant education to the Career & Technical Education program that works with students to offer courses specializing in skilled trades, modern technologies, and career preparation.

Position Outcomes

The member will support other students learning about greenhouses and plant science. The greenhouse is accessible to all grade levels at the school, making this training available to a wider group of students.
