Workforce Development Initiative VISTA

Our pilot workforce development program will allow five members to earn professional certifications and five to attend community college classes. The Workforce Development Initiative VISTA will support the Workforce Development Committee, organizing meetings, calendar invites, and reminders. They will design a needs assessment to establish areas of focus for workforce professional development, research resources to answer these needs (like certifications, trainings, and community college courses relevant to youth development, non-profit management, and small business development). They will build the foundation of relationships with institutions of higher education and training organizations, matching their offerings to the needs of staff, and research career coaches. They will establish criteria and design a selection system to determine which staff members are eligible for this support, the requirements for ongoing participation, and the associated costs for support staff. Finally, they will maintain a database of resources, partnerships, and prospects.

Service Activities

-Organize Workforce Development committee meetings and coordinate staff participation
-Design and execute a needs assessment to establish areas of focus for workforce professional development within ASAS DC’s staff
-Work with the Executive Director to establish criteria and design a selection system to determine which program staff members are eligible to participate and the requirements for ongoing participation in workforce development programming
-Research and identify resources to address the needs established in the assessment above (e.g. certifications, trainings, community college courses relevant to youth development and/or non-profit management)
-Research institutions of higher education and training organizations within DC that offer programming related to the workforce development needs of ASAS DC’s program staff
-Conduct outreach, informational interviews, and other engagement strategies with identified organizations to determine capacity and costs

Community Need Addressed

This position will create new workforce development and continuing education opportunities for After School All Stars DC's part-time staff members.

Position Outcomes

College credit and professional certificate attainment for ASAS DC's part time staff to help them progress towards their long term career goals.
