Position Service Site: Trees for Tomorrow Environmental Education Center (Eagle River, WI)
Service Time: September 6, 2022 – July 21, 2023 (1,700 Hour AmeriCorps Term) (46 weeks) (40 hours per week)
Benefits: Living stipend total for whole term = $23,000 ($500 per week), Education Award = $6,495.00 upon successful completion of service.
Housing available for $200 a month.
Meals included while you are working with a group.
OVERVIEW: Trees For Tomorrow promotes sustainable management of our natural resources through transformative educational experiences. Our field-based programs place people in direct contact with the natural resources that support human needs, and provide the knowledge and skills that lead to responsible lifestyle choices. A Trees For Tomorrow experience inspires informed participation in policy-making and promotes stewardship and renewal of natural resources for use by future generations.
SERVICE DESCRIPTION: As the Environmental Science Educator, you will teach courses according to Trees For Tomorrow’s curriculum to K-12 school groups. You will also assist the hospitality staff in creating a welcoming environment to guests. Trees For Tomorrow has been around since 1944 and we need YOU to help us continue for another 85 years. This experience is unique, and your impact truly makes a difference in others’ lives. Join Trees For Tomorrow in helping promote sustainable nature resources to stewards of our natural world.
RESPONSBILITIES:
Education (75% of time)
• Prepare and teach all academic courses and special programs in the TFT curriculum including topics such as forestry, wildlife, biology, geology, and water quality to a primary target audience of K-12 school groups.
• Present courses and special programs in a knowledgeable, stimulating, engaging, and objective manner resulting in student participation and an effective learning experience.
• Work collaboratively with rest of staff to develop and regularly update inquiry based Next Generation Science Standard curriculum.
• Assess student learning based on best practices for student assessment.
• Create engaging environmental-based programming for TFT’s community programs including SEEK, Jr. SEEK, and KinderWild Camp.
• Operate all equipment related to course and program presentation including vehicles with trailers.
• Ensure participant safety at all times.
• Required to work some nights and weekends as schedule demands
• Assist with curriculum development.
• Care for TFT’s animals.
• Teaching: 75%. Other duties: 25%.
Hospitality (25% of time)
• Create a fun and safe dining experience by following state laws.
• Provide healthy delicious meals to all guests.
• Assist other hospitality staff in ensuring that at all requests are met, including special dietary and/or food allergies.
• Maintain a clean prep area, serving area, and dining area.
• Ensure all equipment is working properly. Communicate equipment needs to Hospitality Manager.
• Work with Hospitality Manager and other staff on ensuring proper quantities are available at all meals and events.
• Clean dorm rooms, hallways, lobbies, restrooms, corridors, stairways, and other work areas so that health standards are met.
• Pick up trash and remove debris from driveways and the campus grounds.
• Replenish supplies such as bathroom items as needed.
• Request repair services from maintenance director.
• Observe precautions required to protect campus property and report damage, theft, and found articles to supervisors.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• At least 18 years of age
• Bachelor’s degree in field of natural resources, biology, education or related field is ideal, equivalent experience is also considered.
• Ability to teach various natural resource and environmental science topics to a variety of audiences with a focus on K-12 students.
• Ability to manage a group of students (30+ at a time).
• Valid driver’s license.
• Willingness to regularly work nights and weekends.
• Positive attitude.
• Organization skills, self-motivation, and interest in growth within Trees For Tomorrow.
• Ability to walk 5 miles per day with a 10lb pack over rough terrain

Individual Placement AmeriCorps Members serve with WisCorps partner organizations focused on the areas of natural resource conservation and environmental education. Members promote community service and environmental awareness through direct training and service in the outdoors while participating in community engagement projects. Service Members serve at a single placement site, receive a biweekly stipend and AmeriCorps benefits that correlate to their term of service. Upon successful completion of their service hours, Individual Placements receive a Segal Education Award correlating to the number of service hours completed.
