Overview:
WisCorps field crews complete high-priority conservation projects across Wisconsin and the Upper Midwest. Projects may include trail restoration, habitat restoration, invasive species management, and carpentry projects. AmeriCorps Field Crew Members live or camp out with their crew near their project sites and travel throughout Wisconsin and the Midwest.

2022 Crews:

Roving Crews
• WisCorps will host x2 Roving Field Crews during both the 2022 Summer & Fall sessions
• Crews will move throughout Wisconsin serving on conservation projects alongside non-profits, city, county & state agency staff Potential project partners: Kenosha County, Ozaukee County, St. Croix County, City & County of Waupaca, Driftless Area Land Conservancy, Lakeshore Natural Resources Partnership, and Chequamegon Area Mountain Bike Association (CAMBA)
• Projects include trail building/maintenance, invasive species management, carpentry, and tree planting
• Participants should expect mostly front-country tent camping accommodations throughout their 8-10 week term

Wetland Restoration Crew
•WisCorps will host x1 Wetland Restoration Crew in both the 2022 Summer & Fall sessions
•While serving within Indiana Dunes National Park, participants will learn about wetland restoration techniques alongside National Park Service staff
•Typical projects include backpack spraying invasive species, planting native species, seed collections, power brush cutting, and habitat restoration
•Crew housing is provided - Participants will live in an apartment or in a house near Indiana Dunes National Park

Wilderness Crew
• WisCorps will host x1 Wilderness Field Crew during the 2022 Summer session
• Participants will serve on backcountry trails in Isle Royale National Park alongside National Park Service staff for 6 project weeks
• Participants will serve and learn about mountain bike trails while partnering alongside Chequamegon Area Mountain Bike Association (CAMBA) for 2 project weeks
• Participants should expect backcountry tent camping accommodations for 75% of their term and front-country tent camping 25% of their term

Additional Benefits

Crew members have room and board provided as well as opportunities for additional training including Leave No Trace, Native/Invasive Species Identification, Herbicide Applicator (if needed), and other position-related training.

Education Requirements

GED

Desired Certifications or Qualifications

18-25 years old

Experience in outdoor recreation

Participants must provide their own personal camping items such as all-leather boots, sleeping bags, backpacks, water containers, and rain gear.

Must be able to commit to the full Summer or Fall session including the training days leading up to field projects.

Passionate about environmental causes and being a part of a community surrounding environmental service

Willingness to learn various conservation practices or land management techniques

Upon hire, all WisCorps members must consent to a Criminal History Check. Service with WisCorps will be considered probationary until all results are returned and have been reviewed.

Alcohol & recreational drug use is strictly prohibited on WisCorps projects and on WisCorps property which also extends to days off between projects for WisCorps Field Crews.
