WSC AmeriCorps members will engage youth, older adults and disabled individuals in living healthier by providing outreach, training and hands-on activities on nutrition, wellness practices, and physical fitness. They will help provide food to those in need through school meal programs and services to homebound adults, and connect individuals to health care access and resources.

Service Activities

WSC AmeriCorps members will:
- coordinate meal assistance programs in schools;
- coordinate food bank home delivery services to low-income, homebound individuals;
- provide nutrition education through cooking classes and outdoor activities;
- develop and facilitate wellness activities, physical fitness programs and youth sports camps;
- collect data on program participation;
- recruit and manage community volunteers.

Community Need Addressed

Increasing population of low-income older adults and disabled individuals who lack access to community resources, food and proper nutrition, and social interaction necessary to remain active and independent; increasing statewide population experiencing food insecurity on a daily basis; decrease in youth with sufficient knowledge of behaviors that lead to healthy lives.

Position Outcomes

Individuals will improve their access to food, health services and community resources, increase their knowledge of healthy eating habits and engagement in physical fitness activities, and increase their social ties and/or perceived social support.
