Big Fitness Coach:
Assist Big Brothers Big Sisters staff in recruiting children and families for participation in Sports Based Youth Development (SBYD) program.
Enroll children into sports based youth development (SBYD) program at the Carnival Center of Excellence.
Complete pre and post surveys for all participants to identify and track outcomes.
Maintain a clean and exercise and fitness area at all times.
Assist in the creation of class schedules that will be strictly adhered to for the benefit of youth and families.
Supervise all physical activity classes during the scheduled times.
• Model and teach students to honor the game/sport or activity.
• Help students redefine what it means to be a “Winner”
use encouragement and positive reinforcement to motivate students
• Prepare lesson plans for all instructional classes
• Reward effort, not just good outcomes
• Explains and demonstrates the use of equipment, techniques and methodology
• Assist the student in achieving proficiency
• Provides observation and feedback during practice/classes to detect and correct mistakes
• Explains and enforces safety rules and regulations
• Lectures on the history and purpose of the game/sport or activity
• Provides feedback to the In-School Coordinator regarding students progress
• Provides support to staff as it relates to utilization of facilities and equipment
• Maintains the equipment and the storage room in an orderly fashion
• Ensures that all equipment and building is secured.
• Ensure that all equipment and recreational items are working properly.
• Seizes teachable moments to talk with students about honoring the game/sport or activity
• Ensures that 100% of the students participate in the Modified Presidential Physical Fitness Test
Additionally, the CAA Coach will:
• Encourage participants to gain and develop life skills, knowledge, and techniques through sport,
using lessons learned at Up2Us Sports’ best in class training events
• Perform data collection activities as directed by your CAA Program Manager
• Act as a role model, gaining the respect and trust of the community and youth served
CAA Coaches must complete the following requirements to ensure successful completion of the
program:
• Completion of the required hours of service and training by last day of coach contract
• Attendance at the CAA orientation
• Completion of twice monthly America Learns reflection logs at an 80% level or higher
• Completion of timesheets
• Attendance at a day of service
• Attend/participate in CAA trainings, meetings, and special initiatives
• Attend Coach Training Institute (date to be announced by CAA Program Manager)
Uniform Policy:
Coaches must wear CAA branded t-shirts provided by Up2Us Sports with CAA logo when coaching and
at program sessions and events
