Description

An Up2Us Coach will serve with a sports-based youth development (SBYD) organization focused on bringing sports to children who need it most. Up2Us Coaches will leverage the power of play and teamwork to reduce youth violence, promote health, increase academic success, and improve futures. An Up2Us Coach will receive over 40 hours of professional development, including SBYD training, and will have access to a network of over 1,200 youth development organizations for future career development and networking.

This coach will work with youth in a long term mentor program called University. The coach will be responsible for all communications, activities, and workshops with the youth (and their families) and mentors. The position operates as an 8am-4pm, Monday-Friday but includes many weekend and weeknight events. Weekend events will be on mountain for outdoor activities from December-April and service learning, community events, or activity days on weekends September-March (they are not every weekend). Youth and mentor workshop and some service learning days will take place on week nights. This position includes the opportunity to work with youth in the following sports: skiing, snowboarding, hiking, skateboarding, camping, rafting, mountain biking, kayaking, and rock climbing.

Living Allowance

$1200 - $1500 monthly

Additional Benefits

In addition to the AmeriCorps living stipend, this position will also be provided a housing stipend from the host site organization of $9,000.

Desired Certifications or Qualifications

Must like working with youth. Must like cold weather and being on the mountain/in snow. This position requires the ability to: travel within the service area; use the computer, telephone, and electronic mail systems; lift 50 pounds; and lead meetings and speak in public. Valid driver’s license required.

Members must be U.S. citizens, nationals, or lawful permanent residents. Members must be 18 years old, or 17 with written parental/guardian consent. Members must have or be working toward a High School diploma, GED, or its equivalent. Members must consent to a background check performed by Up2Us Sports. The term of service is always contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background check. The results of state and FBI criminal history background checks and national sexual offender checks through the National Sex Offender Public Registry Website (NSOPW) are considered. Members must commit to the entire term of service. Members must have access to consistently reliable transportation (eg: personal vehicle or public transit). Military Veterans have priority status for this position
