An Up2Us Coach will serve with a sports-based youth development (SBYD) organization focused on bringing sports to children who need it most. Up2Us Coaches will leverage the power of play and teamwork to reduce youth violence, promote health, increase academic success, and improve futures. An Up2Us Coach will receive over 40 hours of professional development, including SBYD training, and will have access to a network of over 1,200 youth development organizations for future career development and networking.

Service Activities

Coaching, program design, mentoring, data collection, complete reflection logs, attend/participate in training sessions

Community Need Addressed

The lack of caring, positive role models for underserved youth. Up2Us Coaches are role models, mentors, and community leaders.

Position Outcomes

Up2Us Sports uses sports-based youth development (SBYD). SBYD has the potential to achieve even better outcomes than other interventions. Kids who play sports are more likely to: improve their grades and stay in school, work as a team and set personal goals, be physically healthy, make smart choices about drugs, alcohol, and promiscuous sex, and learn conflict resolution skills, reducing violent behavior.
