Description

Through United Way of the Piedmont's AmeriCorps Program, AmeriCorps members serve part-time as Financial Stability Navigators at local organizations in the Piedmont region of South Carolina to address critical community needs related to economic opportunity. Members directly serve low-income households by providing care coordination and financial literacy services, preparing and filing income tax returns for free, and assisting households to apply for state and federal benefits. Additional Benefits

- Modest living allowance of $6,000 - Eli Segal Education Award to be used toward student loans or further education ($2,887.50 upon successful completion of service). This award can be received up to 4 times in our program. - Monthly shopping at United Way of the Piedmont's Gifts in Kind Center for household items, such as paper products and cleaning supplies - Professional development training and workshops - AmeriCorps members are often eligible to apply for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance (food stamps) and other assistance programs

Education Requirements

GED

Desired Certifications or Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
-Must be 17 years of age or older;
-Must have a high school diploma or equivalent (or agree to work toward one);
-Must be a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States;
-Must satisfy the National Service Criminal History Check eligibility criteria.

Skills Needed:
-Commitment to mission and values of AmeriCorps, United Way, and service site;
-Ability to work with people from various socioeconomic backgrounds and thrives in diverse environment;
-Excellent communication skills and can articulate messages to different audiences;
-Ability to work independently;
-Basic computer skills and knowledge.
