Description

EDC members will conduct one on one financial training, assist in acquiring public benefits, job skill training, and support family need through intervention programs.

The WNY Law Center runs a consumer debt clinic to help people being sued for things like medical or credit card debt to represent themselves in court and respond to their legal paperwork. The aim of the Civil Legal Advice & Resource Office (CLARO) Buffalo is to educate unrepresented debtors regarding their rights as consumers and to help them through the legal process

An AmeriCorps member will work to expand the Civil Legal Advice & Resource Office's (CLARO) capacity to assist people all around Western New York including urban and rural areas. AmeriCorps members will work with CLARO visitors to conduct intakes, pull and review credit reports, and provide relevant financial recovery material to help the CLARO visitor move forward financially. Our goal is to provide assistance that extends beyond the legal issue brought to CLARO but addresses the behavior or scenario that lead to the legal issue to begin with. In addition to working with the new clinics, the AmeriCorps member will be attending the CLARO sessions already established in Buffalo, Lackawanna, and Jamestown.

Benefits Include: Twelve (12) months of meaningful experience · An annual living stipend of $13,732, which is paid out in bi-weekly increments · An AmeriCorps Eli Segal Education Award of $5,920 provided after the successful completion of the term of service · Basic, no cost health insurance · Ability to put qualified federal student loans on forbearance during the term of service · Child Care assistance to those who qualify · Monthly professional development and multiple training opportunities. This program is available to all, without regard to race, color, national origin, disability, age, gender, political affiliation, or religion
