AmeriCorps Builds Lives through Education (ABLE) is an education focused National Service program. We collaborate with schools that share our mission of increasing the academic success of students in Buffalo, NY. ABLE mobilizes men and women in national service to revive and strengthen educational environments, expanding opportunities for today’s youth and transforming America’s future—one student, one classroom, and one community at a time. ABLE members can be found in classrooms throughout the city of Buffalo, serving students in grades 4-10

We are seeking 20 members who will focus on the character development of our students. These members will implement Positive Action, an evidenced based intervention that enriches the social, emotional, and behavioral health of our 4th-10th grade students. Members will be responsible for the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of this intervention with up to 30 students.

Members will receive training in this intervention (as well as other areas) during their initial orientation, and then at bi-weekly training throughout their service year.


Childcare assistance if eligible, Education award upon successful completion of service, Health coverage, Living allowance, Student loan forbearance, Training

Living Allowance - Members receive living allowance on a bi-weekly basis. Living Allowance is considered taxable Training - Members will participate in monthly professional development, organized by ABLE Staff. Members will also be invited to participate in professional development at their host site. Uniforms - Members will be provided with AmeriCorps gear to wear at their site Personal Time Off - Members will be given 5 PTO days to use during their 6 month term

Ideal Candidates:
- Have experience working with urban youth in an academic setting
- Feel comfortable planning and implementing lessons with students
- Have strong organizational skills
- Feel comfortable communicating in a variety of formats (verbal, written, etc.)
- Are passionate about education
