AmeriCorps Builds Lives through Education (ABLE) is an education focused National Service program. We collaborate with schools that share our mission of increasing the academic success of students in Buffalo, NY. ABLE mobilizes men and women in national service to revive and strengthen educational environments, expanding opportunities for today’s youth and transforming America’s future—one student, one classroom, and one community at a time. ABLE members are found in classrooms throughout the city of Buffalo, serving students in grade 4-10.

30 members of our corps will focus on implementing I CAN Learn, an evidence based math intervention. The student assigned to this intervention are considered high risk/below grad level in their math scores. This intervention will be utilized as a supplement to regular math instructions. Members will be responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluation this intervention with up to 30 students during the school year. This intervention will eb utilized during the school day, as well as before and after school activities.

All ABLE members will also be trained in our other intervention - Position Action, which focuses on character development.

Personal Time Off - Each member will receive 10 PTO days to utilize during their term. Training - Members will attend a week long orientation with ABLE staff, an onsite orientation at their host site, and meet biweekly with ABLE Staff and Corps members throughout their term. ABLE Staff - Members will have full access to the ABLE staff as their grow and develop throughout their term.

Ideal candidates:
- Demonstrated experience working with urban youth in an academic setting
- Comfortable with educational technology, as entire intervention is computer based
- Background in STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering, Math
- Passion for education
- Strong organizational and professional communication skills
