AmeriCorps VISTAs are placed through the Literacy Coalition of Central Texas at service sites across Texas. Each VISTA serves full-time for one year at their placement site with at our partner agencies. They help to improve health services, create and evaluate programs, strengthen community groups, conduct outreach, and much, much more. VISTA members and their service sites create, implement, expand, and improve programs designed to bring individuals and communities out of poverty.
Each One Teach One (EOTO) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization based in San Antonio, Texas. EOTO's mission is to improve the literacy levels of San Antonio's adult population through individualized curriculum and one on one tutoring. EOTO provides one on one and small group instruction to adults aged 18 and older who; 1) perform below an 8th grade level in reading, writing or math, i.e. functionally illiterate); 2) are seeking to obtain their high school equivalency certificate, obtain a job, or advance in their current job; 3) are seeking to improve their English as a Second Language (ESL) skills; 4) are seeking to improve their computer literacy skills; 5) are seeking to improve their ability to navigate a modern society by learning to read. EOTO was established in 2004 as a ministry of a local church and became an independent nonprofit in 2010. In 2014 EOTO purchased and renovated a former fire station from the city of San Antonio and opened its community literacy center in January 2015. EOTO also serves the Eastside of San Antonio at the Eastside Education and Training Center (EETC).
Member Duties : The EOTO VISTA will: - Review, refine, and enhance existing volunteer recruitment processes. - Address volunteer training and support to improve volunteer retention. - Provide initial training to volunteers and maintain volunteer data base. - Work with educational staff to match volunteers and tutors for optimum learner progress. - Implement additional marketing efforts for volunteers using social media. _ Represent EOTO at various community service recruiting events. - Establish positive relationships with community organizations and media outlets in support of EOTO mission. - Provide support to EOTO Board on capacity building projects including refining existing marketing plan, social media footprint, and fund raising projects and events
