Operating in the Lower Hudson Valley of New York and Northern New Jersey, the Trail Conference Conservation Corps trains, enables, and empowers future conservation leaders to become stone wall/step trail builders, aquatic and invasive species stewards and invasive species stikeforce personnel.

Service Activities

Crew members work primarily outdoors and must have the ability to conduct physically strenuous field work in rugged terrain, including ability to lift and carry heavy loads up to 50 pounds, hike 5 miles on uneven terrain and work in all weather conditions.

And the Invasive Strike-force crews work to remove invasive vegetation from local waterways (Aquatic team) as well as on land in local parks and nature preserves (Terrestrial team) to preserve and maintain our natural ecosystems.

The Trail Conference Conservation Corps trains, enables, and empowers future conservation leaders by teaching sustainable trail building and stewardship techniques, while engaging and teaching community volunteers on the responsible use and care of open space and addressing the needs of land managers.

Position Outcomes

• Highly technical trail-buiilding training and experience: griphoist rigging, dragging and highlines, dry masonry and trail structures, trail tread and drainage, bridge building, trail design and layout, etc.
• Training in Wilderness First Aid and CPR/AED (for 2 year Red Cross certification) & Leave-No-Trace Principles
• Training and experience in volunteer recruitment and retention techniques
• Valuable professional and networking opportunities
• Making a difference serving the local community and visitors from across the nation
