The SCI AmeriCorps program connects youth with relationships, experiences and resources they need to succeed. Our Members support youth achievement through volunteer outreach and capacity building that provides leadership training and community service opportunities for youth.
SCI AmeriCorps is currently looking for members to fill Youth Leadership Coordinator (YLC) positions for a 1200 hour service period between November 2019 and June 2020 Since 2007, SCI AmeriCorps members have served at various host sites, who are aligned with the mission of Social Capital Inc. The YLC will serve as leaders to a youth council, increase the capacity of host sites to implement social capital building, youth engagement and community service-learning as strategies to achieve high educational outcomes.
HOST SITE OPPORTUNITY ─ East Boston Neighborhood Health Center
The SCI AmeriCorps member will:
Work with youth as coaches in an afterschool setting to deliver fitness, sport readiness and nutrition programming twice weekly to youth ages 8-14.
Run a weekly youth council for teens focused on developing professionalism, leadership skills, and increasing awareness of community health and social issues.
Guide youth in identifying, planning and implementing community service activities which will be geared at engaging additional community youth in meaningful activity.
Commitment to service of local community members with diverse backgrounds
Effective communication skills to conduct community outreach through marketing strategies and civic engagement
Strong project management and organization tools
Achieve goals within a team and independently
Childcare assistance if eligible, Education award upon successful completion of service, Health coverage, Living allowance, Stipend, Student loan forbearance, Training
Earn up to $4250 federal education award on successful completion of service
Participate in professional development training
Paid a bi-weekly stipend
Eligible for free health care at a no cost premium
Receive student loan forbearance during their service commitment
Can apply for SNAP food benefits
Desired Certifications or Qualifications
Spanish speaking preferred, and interest in youth health and exercise.
Permits attendance at school during off hours
Subject to criminal background check
