The SCI AmeriCorps program connects youth with relationships, experiences and resources they need to succeed. Our Members support youth achievement through volunteer outreach and capacity building that provides leadership training and community service opportunities for youth.
SCI AmeriCorps is currently looking for members to fill Youth Leadership Coordinator (YLC) positions for a 900-hour or 1200-hour service period between November 2019 and June 2020 Since 2007, SCI AmeriCorps members have served at various host sites, who are aligned with the mission of Social Capital Inc. The YLC will serve as leaders to a youth council, increase the capacity of host sites to implement social capital building, youth engagement and community service-learning as strategies to achieve high educational outcomes.
HOST SITE OPPORTUNITY ─ YMCA of Greater Boston
The SCI AmeriCorps member will be responsible for increasing the capacity of YMCA-sponsored youth meal programs by developing and leading branch Teen Councils as well as an Association-wide Council. The member will report to the Executive Director of Nutrition Services:
Lead the development of 7 Teen Councils at individual branches and an Association-wide Teen Council; Will require close coordination with Teen Directors to identify program needs, oversee logistics, and determine goals of each Council
Work with Teen Councils to develop community focused nutrition-related objectives to increase community nutrition goals
Engage local leaders and organizations to collaborate with and visit Teen Councils, utilizing existing YMCA partnership with Boston Food Council to elevate our voice across the city
Research existing models of nutrition education in afterschool and summer camp programs to inform YMCA’s nutrition education curriculum development
Expand capacity of afterschool and summer meal sites by empowering youth workers to lead nutrition programming for younger children
REQUIREMENTS

Effective communication skills to conduct community outreach through marketing strategies and civic engagement
Strong project management and organization tools
Achieve goals within a team and independently
