The SCA's mission is to build the next generation of conservation leaders and inspire lifelong stewardship of the environment and communities by engaging young people in hands-on service to the land.
The Adirondack AmeriCorps program is a five-month residential internship with a focus on trail maintenance and construction. Members serve in teams of five in remote backcountry settings for up to 10 days at a time, working alongside the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation throughout the majority of the 6 million-acre Adirondack Park. Projects include new trail construction, extensive timber bridge construction, dry stone masonry, removal of invasive vegetation, fire tower rehabilitation, historic building restoration, and trail maintenance. Adirondack Program members share a residential community where they live and work alongside one another for the duration of the season. The cooperative nature and strong team dynamic of the program fosters an incredibly rewarding experience.
The SCA New Hampshire AmeriCorps Program is a partnership between the Student Conservation Association, The New Hampshire Department of Resources and Economic Development, and the Corporation for National and Community Service. Since 1994, SCA NH AmeriCorps has provided nearly one million hours of service to the lands and people of New Hampshire. Each year, 30 full time 18-25 year old volunteers contribute more than 40,000 service hours, providing environmental education programming to the state’s residents and visitors, and completing conservation service projects that improve and protect the state’s cultural, recreational, and natural resources. The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is a national nonprofit organization. It is the nation’s largest and oldest provider of national and community conservation service opportunities, outdoor education and career training for youth. Its mission is to build the next generation of conservation leaders and to inspire young people to lifelong stewardship of their environment and communities.
