I want to serve in the AmeriCorps because I am continually drawn to positions of service. I find myself most eager, passionate and engaged when working with individuals and families who have experienced adversity in some capacity. The AmeriCorps strives to empower, communities through fostering progress within them as they collaborate with individuals and local organizations. I would be honored to be apart of the AmeriCorps mission, as I believe community and personal empowerment is the greatest gift one can give. I hope to empower individuals and communities in Austin so that they can achieve their fullest potential through their own dedication and passion that I can help initiate as an AmeriCorps member. I know that serving in the AmeriCorps after I graduate with my BS this spring will further my education and skill-set in way that my college education could not. I intend to use my prior experiences working in positions of service to aid my work with the AmeriCorps. However, I know these will be foundational skills as continue to gain experience and learn a vast new skills set with the support of the AmeriCorps during my year of service. I would be honored to represent the AmeriCorps as I carry out their mission of service as well as following my own passion for service.
Hi there!My name is Ruby I am graduating the University of Oregon this June. I will be graduating with a degree in general social science with minors in sociology and special education. I have a vast about of experience working in early intervention and in early education environments. I am passionate about working with families who have experienced trauma, abuse or neglect. I am moving to Austin this fall to live with my sister and would be honored to spend my first year serving my new city. I am originally from Portland, Oregon and all though I love my city I am ready for sun, music and BBQ.
