The RAV AmeriCorps VISTA will assist in the overall development of the Driven 2 Succeed Program. The Driven 2 Succeed program is a youth development program created by the Raising A Village Foundation for elementary, middle and high school students in District of Columbia schools and community learning centers. The RAV AmeriCorps VISTA will serve with staff to build capacity and recruit Driven Student Guides (DSGs) through Federal Work Study (FWS) programs who provide support for students in the areas of academics, social-emotional learning, and college and career readiness. This includes the development of curriculum, the on-site planning and implementation of in-school programs, the creation of training seminars and resources for DSGs, as well as the implementation of best practices for FWS recruitment and onboarding of DSGs, and additional university and secondary school partners. As coordinator of the program, the RAV AmeriCorps VISTA member will also work with program assistants from the Raising A Village-Student Worker program to develop implementation, assessment measures, as well as long term student outcome measures. The goal of our program is to assist in creating clear pathways to productive citizenship by giving students the neccessary tools needed to thrive in school, community and life.

Service Activities

Community Need Addressed

RAV functions as a direct response to the issues that prevail in low-income areas. Raising A Village leads several key initiatives designed to create positive change for children and families in underserved communities. Each program offers support and educational opportunities that promote personal growth and civic engagement. The Driven 2 Succeed Program is a youth development program
for K-12 students in District of Columbia schools that provides educational support for students in the areas of academic interventions, social-emotional learning, and college and career readiness.

Position Outcomes

The RAV AmeriCorps VISTA member will work with staff to replicate the D2S program at schools and community learning centers; support letter grade and attendance increase among low performing students, strengthen collaboration with schools and community partners; and improve program capacity and sustainability.
