AmeriCorps Polk Reads

The mission of the Polk Education Foundation is to establish a proactive partnership between the community and the public school system to link community resources with the educational needs of its students through reading and mentoring programs, scholarships, school grants and other educational endeavors.

• About Us
  One of the programs under the Polk Educational Foundation is the AmeriCorps Polk Reads program. This program brings aboard 38 members each year to tutor students in Kindergarten - Third grade that are behind in reading. Members are placed in small teams of three or four and each team is placed at one of the ten elementary schools the program is partnering with.
  The members have a roster of students (8) if they are Half-Time and (16) if they are Full-Time and they see their students in a one-on-one setting three times a week for 30 minutes sessions.
• Our Impact
  Working with students in Kindergarten through Third grade that are behind in reading. Our tutors provide one-on-one tutoring to these students, helping them increase their reading skills, and helping them to become more confident students.
