The Center for Nonprofits and Philanthropy (CNP) Outreach VISTA will support a vibrant social sector network in the Brazos Valley to better address poverty by working with organizations, network stakeholders, and students. This will be accomplished by conducting research of nonprofit and philanthropic organizations in the community to identify needs and establish partnerships with those organizations. The member will lead in creating communication strategies and identifying best practices for promotion and delivery of services. The VISTA will develop policies and evaluation tools to ensure program sustainability. Additionally, the VISTA will implement a leadership development training toolkit to help guide the CNP network on best practices for nonprofit and philanthropic organization interaction.

Community Need Addressed

CNP currently focuses on the state of Texas and prioritizes underserved areas, especially Bryan and College Station. Bryan and College Station have high percentage of residents living below the poverty level, 29.5% and 27.2% respectively (City Data). The Texas average is 20.7%.

Position Outcomes

As CNP grows there is an increased need to interact with and support the local community in new ways. The VISTA member will play a key part in establishing and supporting new and existing programs to better serve local nonprofits as they address the needs of
