Description

Corpus Christi/ Coastal Bend Disaster Recovery Group focuses on providing hope and rebuilding homes for the Coastal Bend's less fortunate in the wake of disaster. We are a local charitable non-profit hub for a network of volunteer organizations active in disaster and gracious donors, helping to match survivors' unmet needs to available recovery resources. Due to Hurricane Harvey we are currently serving six affected counties in the Coastal Bend of Texas (Aransas, Bell, Kleberg, Nueces, Refugio, and San Patricio) with an estimated 8000 homes to be repaired, rebuilt, or replaced. Research shows that natural disasters disproportionality impact poor and marginalized communities and that those living in poverty struggle the most to recover. To help with preparedness and resiliency of Texas communities, we are searching for a motivated individual to help develop volunteer management methods and communications.

Member Duties : The Volunteer Management VISTA is a collaborative member of the integrated Construction Management Team with the objective to support the mission of Coastal Bend Disaster Recovery Group and the clients served by building a network for volunteer support for the organization. The Volunteer Management VISTA is responsible for volunteer recruitment, matching, orientation, and project planning. In conjunction with the Construction Management Team, the VISTA will create a virtual volunteer reception center so volunteers (including unaffiliated or spontaneous volunteers) can be tracked and deployed to proper projects aiding disaster affected communities. The VISTA will also develop a year-round calendar of rebuild activities requiring volunteer resources. Additionally, the VISTA will create strategies to build partnerships across recovery organizations from various counties to share best practices and resources for disaster preparedness.
