Description
The Harris County Department of Education formed the Center for Afterschool, Summer and Enrichment (CASE) for Kids in 1999, to mobilize the community to work together to ensure that every child in Harris County has access to quality afterschool programs. CASE for Kids’ mission is to strengthen, support, and sustain afterschool programs and out of school time activities under its three strategic directions: enhancing quality, expanding resources, and driving change. Acting as a local afterschool intermediary, CASE for Kids provides funding, coaching, resources, and trainings to support afterschool programs across 25 school districts and various community organizations within Harris County. The mission of the Houston Urban Debate League (“HUDL”) is to develop and support competitive debate programs in Houston-area public schools. In partnership with the Houston Urban Debate League (HUDL), CASE for Kids aims to expand the Houston’s high school debate league by creating at least 20 debate teams across Harris County, targeting underserved at-risk youth students. The HUDL VISTA will assist in the planning, implementation, and management of the HUDL project with the assigned CASE for Kids Project Coordinator as well recruitment of teams, mentors, coaches, and students.
Member Duties : HUDL VISTA will support and assist in the recruitment of teams, mentors, coaches, and volunteers for the creation of the CASE for Kids debate program for high school students. The VISTA will work alongside CASE for Kids and Houston Urban Debate League staff in hosting outreach events, expos, and demonstrations to increase awareness of the CASE for Kids Debate program at targeted underserved schools and communities. The VISTA will support in organizing regional competitions and events for all debate programs and coordinate training and workshops for teams. The VISTA will also support CASE for Kids in tracking and reporting specific performance milestones and measurements. Reliable transportation and occasional weekend work is required
