Description

Member Duties : The Community Outreach & Volunteer Coordinator VISTA will assist CASE for Kids in building its capacity to serve afterschool programs by developing a community outreach plan to identify, recruit, train, and place volunteers in a variety of roles. This will include researching and developing a volunteer needs assessment. The VISTA member will also lead in promoting and raising awareness of CASE services throughout Harris County by making presentations and sharing resources with diverse Houston area audiences. In addition, the VISTA will assist the division in the creation & dissemination of the ‘making afterschool cool’ podcast by researching and developing volunteer focused content. Finally, the VISTA will develop a volunteer coordination manual for the division to include key volunteer management topics related to recruitment, communication, training and acknowledgement.

Harris County Department of Education (HCDE) was established in 1889 by the Texas legislature to equalize educational opportunities for children in the greater Houston area. Throughout its history, HCDE's programs have evolved to meet the changing needs of students and educators. Working with local school districts, charter schools, afterschool providers, and nonprofit organizations, CASE for Kids provides funding, training, and resources to the out-of-school time (OST) community, the Center for Afterschool, Summer and Expanded Learning (CASE for Kids), is a division dedicated to supporting high quality (OST) programming to over 7,000 students each year. The time is now to create solutions for Houston’s at-risk youth to have a brighter future. We are seeking a highly organized, energetic, multi-tasking person to join our team and assist us in developing an outreach plan to share our services with the community. This VISTA will identify and secure caring individuals to serve as volunteers in our afterschool programs, at our special events, and in our office.
