Do you want to be a part of a team that engages in community transformation? The University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) has created a partnership with the adjacent Near Northside Community to do just that! The community primarily consists of Hispanic and working-class persons. There are severe unmet needs the Near Northside community is facing that consist of poor housing, under-performing schools (the Northside High School ranks 1499th of 1797 high schools in Texas), and overstretched health clinics. The Center for Community Engagement and Service learning at UHD is seeking an AmeriCorps VISTA to coordinate community meetings and interaction between community leaders and UHD to develop and implement wide ranging community transformation projects in partnership with community members. The spirit of the people is strong, and they want to make their community strong, healthy, and beautiful!
