Beacon Hill Preparatory Institute’s (BH) mission is to provide holistic child development through academic, cultural, and life-skill program with active parental involvement. BH began when two African American mothers (who lead the organization and come from families of educators) became concerned with meeting the needs of their own children and even more so as they became aware of how so many minority and low income students continued to score low on standardized tests. They knew that education had to be a partnership between the teacher, student, and parent – all three working together for the child to excel! With their determination and help from educators and volunteers, BH now provides an innovative reading and math tutoring in-school, after-school, and summer program for low-income students in PK4-12th grades. Reading on grade level by 3rd grade is a recognized benchmark for predicting dropout and incarceration rates. In the latest Kids Count report it found only 36% of Dallas County 3rd graders read on grade level. We need your help to reach as many students as possible! You will help recruit volunteers, raise money, and expand our communications efforts. Visit beaconhillprep.org to learn more about our organization and how you can make a difference in breaking the cycle of poverty.
