YouthBuild Spokane is a program funded through the Department of Labor. The goals are to help 18-24 year-old youth obtain a GED, develop work-readiness skills, and transition to post-secondary school, an apprenticeship, or a job. A typical day could involve tutoring YouthBuild participants (one-on-one and small group), helping participants develop job portfolios, assisting in the facilitation of a civic engagement service project, assisting in the planning of events and national days of service, and assisting in organizing YouthBuild orientations. The position may also include setting up tours with healthcare organizations such as Unify Community Health and the Healthcare Training Center, as well as assisting YouthBuild members in completing their certification course and introducing them to the healthcare industry by discussing basic professional topics and conducting regular visits to the Arc of Spokane and other partnering agencies.
