The member will serve as on-site Volunteer Liaison to recruit, train, place, support, and monitor volunteer academic tutors. The Volunteer Liaison will match the volunteer with high school students who are struggling in math, science, and English Language Arts, yet willing to work to succeed. Serve as a liaison with the content departments on the content and scheduling of one-to-one tutoring, which includes homework help, test preparation, and basic skills strengthening. Foster relationships with students so they attend tutoring with consistency, track student performance, and administer assessments to guide basic skills development and results. On occasion, provide direct academic tutoring to students.

Service Activities

1) Attend all Spokane Service Team trainings and AmeriCorps national days of service.
2) Maintain accurate and timely reports and timecards.
3) Collaborate with staff to recruit and develop resources for new tutors.
4) Create curriculum materials for classes and projects within our maker space
5) Plan educational activities and field trips for students.
6) Develop and maintain data management to analyze effectiveness of the educational program.

Community Need Addressed

This position will address the lack of volunteer organization and tutoring support in high schools.

Position Outcomes

Alternative high school students will have consistent, high quality access to tutoring in all subjects.
