Community Need Addressed

Restoration crew leaders assist in projects dedicated to improving Nevada’s public land in three main areas:

Forest Fuels Reduction & Habitat Enhancement-
Crews help reduce fuels and fire hazards by creating defensible space in locations where the wilderness meets urban areas. Research indicates that fuel reduction projects favorably impact fire behavior, vegetation, water, and overall diversity within riparian areas.

Native Plant Re-vegetation & Invasive Species Removal-
Corps members will work to prevent the continued growth of non-native plant species and restore Sage-grouse habitat using treatment methods that include broadcast seeding, weed abatement, and re-vegetation with bare root plant stock, resulting in healthy ecosystem resilience and improved watershed functionality.

Trail construction, restoration, re-designation, and maintenance-
Corps members will support the signing, decommissioning, and restoration closures of illegal trails and travel routes to increase protection of Sage-grouse habitat and the enforcement of conservation land use.

Position Outcomes

Crew leaders will work alongside their crew members to help enhance the quality, health, and safety of Nevada public lands. Accomplishments will be measured by the miles of recreational trails built and maintained as well as by the acres of land improved through habitat restoration projects.
