The Science Mine (SM) is a volunteer-run, hands-on science center, providing children, parents, school groups, and members of the public with access to experiences where they can discover, design, create, and invent.

Service Activities

In this position you will help to develop a program to engage students from the Montana Technological University as museum volunteers, as well as creating opportunities for local high school students to get jobs at the museum as “Explainers”. You will also strengthen the long-term sustainability of the Science Mine’s operations by performing fundraising and outreach activities.

Community Need Addressed

Promoting scientific literacy for all people by cultivating natural inquisitiveness and the love of play.

Position Outcomes

Enhanced philanthropic fundraising for the Science Mine. Pilot a paid Explainer program that involves first-generation and/or low-income high school students to assist visitors to the SM. Pilot expansion of SM open hours and outreach.
