Description
Normandale Community College is the largest community college in the Minnesota State system, serving almost 15,000 students a year. Our mission is to advance individuals' intellectual, career, and personal development by providing outstanding teaching and support. As the number of low-income and other underrepresented students at Normandale has grown, we have seen increased demand for non-academic supports that can help students persist and reach their academic goals. Overall, the goal of the project is to increase low-income students’ access to health and wellness, food, housing, and other non-academic needs by increasing and strengthening partnerships with community organizations and establishing a Student Resource Center where partners can provide services and referrals. As part of the project the VISTA will develop training materials for work-study funded student workers and create training and resource materials for faculty and staff. This project will have significant impacts not only on student health outcomes, but also on their academic success. ---This project is part of the College Health Corps (CHC) VISTA Program, operated by Minnesota Campus Compact. The CHC increases low-income individuals’ access to health care, health education, food, and basic needs through capacity building projects, including partnerships between higher education and community based organizations. Professional development focuses on health equity, the social determinants of health, and effective partnership development. --- ***Interviews will occur on a rolling basis. Preference given to candidates who apply early.***
